JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County (JCC) Parks and Recreation will host a sensory-friendly movie night for community members of all ages and disabilities.

On Friday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m., families can enjoy a movie in a safe and inclusive environment at JCC Recreation Center.

During the screening, lights will be turned down low and there will be special sensory seating areas. Popcorn and snacks will also be provided.

The movie night is part of JCC Parks and Recreation’s Inclusion and Therapeutic Recreation services, which provides accommodations, programs and activities for youths, teens and adults with disabilities.

Therapeutic Recreation also offers a variety of other programs for individuals with disabilities that are designed to meet the emotional, physical and social needs of participants.

This includes a “Days of Discovery” summer camp for ages five to 22 that runs every summer from late June to early August.

Other events include a soccer and baseball program for youths with disabilities, as well as Buddy Art, which provides art activities for children with special needs. The fall 2021 Buddy Art has been canceled due to COVID-19, but will tentatively resume in spring 2022.

Registration is required for the sensory-friendly movie night. The registration deadline ends Aug. 20. For more information, call 757-259-5354.
