Woman Charged With DUI After Crashing Car Into Power Poles in JCC

JAMES CITY COUNTY — A Newport News woman was arrested after crashing into multiple  power poles off Pocahontas Trail early this morning.

On Monday, July 26, just after 3 a.m., James City County Police Department (JCCPD) responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 7100 block of Pocahontas Trail.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 42-year-old Alyssa Nichole Pettigrew of Newport News was heading west on Pocahontas Trail in a 2015 Honda Civic when the vehicle left the roadway and struck multiple utility poles, knocking them to the ground.

The vehicle came to a rest in a yard at 7115 Pocahontas Trail.

Pettigrew is reported as having suffered minor injuries and was charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Reckless Driving.

She was transported to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where she is being held on a $2,500 secured bond.

JCCPD Sergeant Jason M. Slodysko said that York County received numerous calls of power outages related to the crash.

Crews from Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Dominion Energy are currently on scene and the roadway is expected to be closed for some time.
