UPDATE (July 26, 2021, 2:08 p.m.) — A small fire broke out at Greystone of Virginia, a machine parts manufacturer in Toano earlier this afternoon.
According to James City County Fire Chief, Ryan Ashe, fire crews were called around 12:10 p.m. to a structure fire at 7992 Richmond Road.
Crews arrived on scene to find a small fire in a sandblasting machine and put the fire under control. According to Ashe, one person was transferred to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment.
Due to the presence of chemicals and other potentially flammable items, a Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s Hazardous Material Officer is on the scene with the York County Hazardous Materials Team to ensure the facility is safe.
York County Fire and Life Safety also responded to assist with the fire.
As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation and crews are still at the scene.
