One Man Dead, 4 Year-Old in Stable Condition Following Double Shooting in Yorktown

YORKTOWN — One man has died and a four-year-old boy is in stable condition following a double shooting Friday evening.

On Friday, July 23, at approximately 6:02 p.m., the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) responded to a call that shots were fired on the fired at the 2900 block of George Washington Memorial Highway.

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Floyd Lee James, Jr., a 44-year-old male from Williamsburg, died at the hospital.

The second victim, a 4-year-old boy, was said to be in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

YPSO investigators arrested 33-year-old Adrian Vonshae Pope, who lived at the home where the shooting took place.

Pope was transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Shoot in a Public Place, Destruction of Property, Child Neglect and Reckless Handling of a Firearm.

“I would like to thank all those who responded to this incident; Deputies, Investigators and Medics. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved to include the residents who live nearby who may have witnessed this tragic event,” Sheriff Danny Diggs said.
