JCC Police To Offer Citizens Police Academy

JAMES CITY COUNTY — The James City County Police Department (JCCPD) is currently accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, which will be held from September to December.

The class, which has been offered every year in the spring and fall since 1994, offers an overview of the innerworkings of JCCPD.

The course will include glimpses into several areas of police work such as operation of RADAR, traffic stops, DUI enforcement, search and seizures, handgun safety, shooting range, internal affairs, crime scene investigations, buildings searches and more.

The academy is free of charge and offered to adults 18 and older who live or work in the county. The academy will meet every Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center from  from Sept. 8 to Dec. 15 with the exception of the week of Thanksgiving. There is one Saturday session held at the firing range.

All participants much fill out an application on the JCCPD website and undergo a criminal background check before being admitted to the program.
