GLOUCESTER — Gloucester County’s Water Treatment Plant has received back-to-back performance awards for 2019 and 2020.
Virginia’s Department of Health (VDH)’s Office of Drinking Water awarded Gloucester’s Water Treatment Plant the 2019 and 2020 Gold Water Treatment Performance Award for Excellence in Clarification, Filtration and Backwash.
Gloucester’s Public Utilities Department manages the water treatment plant.
“This is quite an accomplishment for our team, as only a small percentage of water treatment plants in the Commonwealth achieve this award,” Chris Dawson, director of Gloucester’s Public Utilities Department, said. “This award should make it even more evident to our customers that the water they are using, and drinking is safe and healthy.”
According to VDH, the plants that receive these awards demonstrate excellence in day-to-day operations and produce water that is at least three times cleaner than required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
