WILLIAMSBURG — On Saturday, July 3, local fire departments responded to a fire at Quarterpath Recreation Center.
The City of Williamsburg and James City County fire departments along with York County Fire and Life Safety Department responded to the dispatch at 9:27 a.m.
According to a news release from the City of Williamsburg, the first unit arrived at the rec center, 202 Quarterpath Rd., at 9:32 a.m. Units found smoke and fire coming from the roof to the rear of the structure. There were twenty-seven firefighters who responded to the incident.
Units were able to get the fire contained by 9:54 a.m. and it was considered under control by 10:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the City of Williamsburg Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction Team.
The rec center did not have any scheduled programs or activities today due to its closure in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
