WILLIAMSBURG — On the evening of Tuesday, June 29, 2021, passengers were evacuated from one of Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s (BGW) roller coasters after it stopped.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., James City County Fire Department (JCCFD) were called in when the park’s roller coaster, Griffon, stopped during the ride.
Twenty-eight passengers were onboard and evacuated safely from the ride. There were no injuries reported.
JCCFD Fire Chief Ryan Ashe said that there were approximately twelve first responders who assisted in the incident. He said that the scene was cleared at approximately 8:40 p.m.
At this time, BGW is investigating the cause.
BGW Public Relations Manager Matthew Klepeisz said in a statement to WYDaily, “We apologize for the guest inconvenience [of this incident]. The safety of our employees and guests is our top priority.”
