UPDATE (June 26, 2021, 5:45 p.m.): The motorcyclist has been identified as 29-year-old Antuan J. White of Williamsburg.
YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) is currently investigating a two vehicle crash in York County that led to one fatality.
A June 26 release from VSP states that at approximately 9:56 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, the crash occurred on Interstate 64 (I-64) at mile marker 242.
Witnesses reported seeing a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lane, passing traffic on the right shoulder. When the motorcycle attempted to reenter the travel lane, a 2020 Kia Sportage was merging into the same lane. At this point, the two vehicles collided.
The adult male driving the motorcycle was thrown from it and died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released as VSP is still in the process of notifying his next of kin.
Neither the 61-year-old female driver of the Kia Sportage, who was identified only as being from King George, Va., nor her passenger, also unidentified, were injured.
VSP states that the crash remains under investigation.
