YORK COUNTY — Four York-Poquoson Sherriff’s Office (YPSO) deputies went the extra mile in community duty yesterday by cleaning up a stretch of beach by the Yorktown Picnic Area.
“It was left in shambles over the weekend with several trash bags, two grills, and other trash scattered all around the beach,” Shelley Ward, spokesperson for YPSO said in an email.
The four officers, deputies Eric Brown, Troy Worley, Darrell Covington and John Tracey usual beat is school resource officers, but when school is out, they work at the waterfront for most of the summer assisting tourists and monitoring the area.
According to Ward, the officers picked up two grills, a lawn chair, and three full bags of trash that were completely full and left behind, along with other trash scattered along the beach.
“They are there to assist citizens and tourists when needed, not to clean up trash that others leave behind,” Ward said, adding the officers went above their duty to keep York County beautiful.
