REGIONAL — Pick-your-own berry season is upon us. Nothing says summer quite like eating fresh blueberries that you picked yourself.
While local blueberry growth can often be unpredictable due to weather conditions, some farms are already promising an abundance of these delicious and nutritious treats.
You can chill them, freeze them, or bake them into a dessert.
Pick your own, also known as “U-pick farms,” are also great for fun date activities or family outings.
Please be advised that while several local farms are offering berry picking around this time of the year, you might want to check their social media or websites before heading over to the farms.
Below is a list of some local farms offering blueberry picking this season:
MillFarm Christmas Trees & Berry Farm
4900 Fenton Mill Rd, Williamsburg
MillFarm Christmas Trees & Berry Farm offers pick-your-own blueberries. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., its small patch of blueberries are ready for picking.
The farm is full of rows of blueberries to pick straight off the bushes.
The farm takes cash or check.
Those who are just looking for some pre-picked blueberries this weekend, MillFarm will be at the Williamsburg Farmers Market on Saturday, June 19 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Bush Neck Farm
1502 Bush Neck Road, Williamsburg
Bush Neck Farm is a local farm that offers seasonal pick your own apples, blueberries, peaches and pumpkins.
Located in Williamsburg, the farm is currently closed but will reopen July 1 with apples, peaches and blueberries.
College Run Farms
A small, family-run farm in Surry, College Run Farms has over 1,000 blueberry bushes and a pumpkin patch in the fall. They farm is also well-known for its homemade ice cream for guests to enjoy after picking berries or pumpkins..
College Run Farms’ blueberries are currently ripening and will be ready to pick by July 1, along with offering homemade ice cream.
Drewry Farms
541 Strawberry Lane, Wakefield
Drewry Farms is a pick-your-own farm that offers fresh produce and naturally-raised meat.
The farm’s blueberries are currently coming along for this year’s blueberry season for guests to come and pick their own.
