JAMES CITY COUNTY — On Thursday, May 20, the James City County Police Department (JCCPD) held its annual Service Awards Ceremony, recognizing many officers as well as some community members for their continued high levels of service and dedication to community safety.
Both officers and citizens were recognized for their efforts, receiving letters of appreciation, letters of commendation, Lifesaving awards, Meritorious service awards and other specialty awards during the ceremony.
Master Police Officer (MPO) Michael Ferriero was named 2021 Officer of the Year. Ferriero is assigned as a School Resource Officer to Jamestown High School, where he has developed positive relationships with both students and staff.
Officer Ferriero is responsible for organizing the department’s C.O.P.s Camps, which is a collaborative effort between the police department and the county’s Parks and Recreation Department. This program requires months of collaborative planning.
He also serves on the department’s Marine Patrol Unit, Police Honor Guard and SWAT team.
