YORK COUNTY — A crash on May 13 claimed the life of Seaford resident, Caroline Marie Wyatt Thompson, and left a 10-year-old child and the driver of the other vehicle with serious, life-threatening injuries.
At 8:45 p.m., the driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, Michael James Ramirez, 38 of Hampton, was traveling westbound near the 1200 block of Goodwin Neck Road, just east of Seaford Road. Ramirez crossed the double solid lines and struck a 2019 Volkswagen Beetle head on.
This caused the Volkswagen to run off the road and into a tree line. Thompson, who was driving the Volkswagen, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. A 10-year-old female who was traveling in the Volkswagen also suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Ramirez suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Early on Friday, May 14, Thompson passed away from the injuries that she sustained.
The current status of the child and Ramirez could not be released due to restrictions from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Ramirez has since been charged with reckless driving. Further charges are pending, based on a case review from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
