POQUOSON — A new business is bringing back a popular frozen treat to Poquoson residents later this month.

Poquoson Ice will soon announce their grand opening 550 Wythe Creek Road

The new snow cone shop is taking over the previous location of Pelican’s SnoBalls, a Poquoson and York County staple that served New Orleans-style shaved ice.

Heather Hamm, owner of Poquoson Ice, has been a resident of the area for four years.

When Pelican’s SnoBalls of Poquoson closed earlier this year, Hamm, along with her husband, bought the shop in order to continue providing the community with the summer sweet treat.

While Poquoson Ice has not officially announced their opening date, Hamm said that they are tentatively looking at May 16.

The shop will be open Monday-Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hamm said that since announcing the upcoming openingthe immediate excitement and support from the community has been a big surprise to her.

“We’re such a small town here,” she said. “But I was not expecting that much attention so fast.”

Hamm said that they are hoping to have a ribbon cutting ceremony for their grand opening in order to incorporate the city and involve the community.
