HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Welcome to our new weekly column where we will provide a round up of events happening this weekend in and around the Historic Triangle! Below, you will find a handful of the many events happening.

Friday, May 7:

  • Virtual Teen Job Fair, Williamsburg Regional Library, 3:00 p.m.: Do you know of a teen looking for a job? Williamsburg Regional Library will be holding a virtual job fair with local employers looking to hire new employees. The job fair will take place via Zoom at 3 p.m. For more information or to register for the event, click here!

  • Yorktown Market Days, Yorktown Riverfront, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: This special market will have you jumping for joy! Not only can you shop your favorite vendors and artists, but you can learn to improve your wellness with health services information, programs and resources. Gather fitness information on customized instructor-led programs and personal training; nutrition and consultation; prevention screenings, foster parenting, care for seniors; resilience week, summer camps, and free health screenings such as body composition analysis. Due to the evolving pandemic, all 2021 events are subject to change. In addition to the regular market & artist vendors, select wellness vendors will be participating – Bacon Street Youth & Family Services, In Balance Mobile Yoga Studio, Lackey Clinic, Pivot Physical Therapy, Riverside Health System – Cancer Services, Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center, Victory Family YMCA, Virginia Health Services, York County Parks & Recreation, York-Poquoson Department of Social Services.   • Jamestown & Indigenous Arts Day, Jamestown Settlement, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Jamestown Settlement is hosting the 414th anniversary commemoration of the founding of the colony. This event will also take place in conjunction with Indigenous Arts Day. This family-friendly event will take guests on a colonial-era journey by land and by sea while honoring the cultures of several indigenous tribes. The event is included with the cost of admission.   • Second Saturdays Farm & Garden Volunteer Work Party, Williamsburg Community Growers, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Join other volunteers at Williamsburg Community Growers’ (WCG) garden! Learn about small-scale farming and participate in the local food system. The garden is located in the Dominion Energy power corridor between Warhill High School and WISC, off Stadium Road. Tuesday evenings 5:30 to 7 pm and Saturdays mornings 7:30 to 10 or 10:00 to 12:30. Choose as few or as many days as you wish, and children are welcome.   • Williamsburg Farmers Market, 401 Francis St W, Williamsburg, VA 23185, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Join the Williamsburg community for its weekly farmers market! This Virginia producer-only market offers a variety of local products, including fresh seasonal produce, a variety of meats and seafood, herbs, potted plants, baked goods, confections, honey, cheese, coffee, peanuts, cut flowers, handmade soaps, and more.   • 2nd Saturdays Dog Adoptions, The Nautical Dog, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Come to The Nautical Dog, 5102 Main Street in Williamsburg, to meet your new best friend! In partnership with Heritage Humane Society, there will be furry friends waiting to find their fur-ever homes as well as fundraisers and sales going on at the store throughout the day.   • 2nd Sundays Williamsburg, N. Boundary & Scotland streets, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Bring Mom to 2nd Sundays in Williamsburg! This open-air market will include vendors with unique items for sale, live music, a magic show, and more! Between 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., SilverMan Steve will be out and about with his alligator “pet.” For more information, visit the Facebook page for 2nd Sundays Williamsburg by clicking here.

  • Mother’s Day Surf & Turf, York River State Park, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Take Mom out on a different type of ‘Surf & Turf’ on her special day! Rent a canoe or kayak on a Ranger-guided trip along the York River to Fossil Beach. Everyone can keep their favorite prehistoric relic as a souvenir. This trip is by reservation only. Rental fees apply. Cost. Canoes $9/person or $6/person (family of 4+), solo kayak $16/person, tandem kayak $11/person. Prepayment required with reservation.
