JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting the public to attend a virtual meeting on April 29 to learn more about the Skiffe’s Creek Connector construction project.

The upcoming meeting, “Pardon Our Dust,” will discuss the upcoming construction project, which will open a new connector roadway between Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) and Merrimac Trail (Route 143) in James City County. The objective of this project is to provide relief to the roadways’ current congestion.

The Skiffes Creek Connector project will include the following elements:

  • a new two-lane connecting roadway between Route 60 and Route 143,
  • new turn lanes and intersection improvements,
  • two bridges—one bridge over Skiffes Creek and one bridge over the CSX railroad tracks and Route 143,
  • and the addition of a multi-use path along eastbound Route 60 between Green Mount Parkway (Route 774) and the existing bus stop.

VDOT notes that this project is being delivered as a “Design-Build Project,” which means that a design-build contractor will perform the final design, right of way acquisition and utility relocation, as well as some construction activities concurrently.

Engineers from VDOT and construction staff will provide a brief presentation followed by a live chat question and answer session. Construction on the project is slated to begin this spring with an expected completion of fall 2022.

The virtual meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. with a backup date of Monday, May 3.
