WILLIAMSBURG — The city wants to make it easier for residents and visitors to find their way around downtown.

The City of Williamsburg announced on Thursday that the community can take a survey and choose from several “wayfinding” designs, courtesy of MERJE, a national design firm specializing in community wayfinding.

“What is “Wayfinding”?

“Simply put, it is how someone chooses a path to reach their destination (how they find their way),” according to the Williamsburg Economic Development Department’s announcement.

“The City of Williamsburg is developing a plan to enhance the existing wayfinding system to make it easy for visitors and residents to navigate around downtown, promote parking opportunities, encourage local shopping & dining and market special events.”

According to the city’s announcement, there was a public meeting on April 13 where MERJE showed the three design proposal and release survey following the meeting “to gather additional feedback on the designs from the public.”
