WILLIAMSBURG-JAMES CITY COUNTY — Williamsburg-James City County (WJCC) School Board in-person meetings will open back up to the public starting in May.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, WJCC School Board members have held meetings that have been closed to residents.

The meetings have been streamed live, allowing residents to leave public comments for the board.

Strategic communications officer Eileen M. Cox said that the school board will hold its second meeting of the month on May 18 and then another on June 15 at the Stryker Center located on 412 N Boundary St. in Williamsburg.

The city has marked seating to allow residents to sit socially distanced, while school board members will be seated on the dais and at tables at the front of the room, Cox said.

Meanwhile, the York County School Division (YCSD) School Board meetings reopened to the public at York Hall back in November, with seating limited to ensure social distancing.

Prior to opening back up to the public, the school board meetings were held at the School Board Office and were only open to the board members, the superintendent and chief officers.

Public comments were sent through videos or phone recordings, YCSD spokeswoman Katherine Goff said.

Public comments for YCSD School Board meetings are now done so in person.

WJCC School Board meetings will now similarly allow public comments to be given in person.

The last virtual school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 20 in Building F of the James City County Complex, located at 101 Mounts Bay Road in Williamsburg.
