WILLIAMSBURG — On Friday, March 26, Stephanie Chandler, step-mother of Senior Master Sgt. Brandon Scott Chandler, released the following statement:

“Brandon was a family-oriented, hard-working man, and the selfish decision for someone to make by drinking and driving has taken him away from our family now and for generations to come. He leaves behind a beautiful wife and our granddaughters, who are just 15 and 9 years old, along with a multitude of extended family. This tragedy will forever be in our hearts, and nothing can turn it around. Drinking and driving is a serious and deadly crime and must be treated as such when someone is facing this charge, not to mention all the other charges pressed. Not only is this event going to affect our family’s lives but also the lives of the Darden family as well. My only hope is that the perpetrator understands her actions and how they have scarred so many and that she finds genuine remorse for what she has done.”

On Wednesday, March 24 at approximately 9:24 a.m., Senior Master Sgt. Brandon Chandler, 36, of Williamsburg, was critically injured after his vehicle was struck on I-64E near the overpass for Hampton Roads Center Parkway. The impact pushed his vehicle off the highway, crashing it into a tree. Senior Master Sgt. Chandler was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
