POQUOSON — After battling COVID-19 for several months, Graham Wilson, assistant city manager for Poquoson, passed away on Wednesday, March 10.
“The 91st District has suffered a great loss today,” wrote Del. Martha Mugler (D-Hampton) in a Facebook post on Wednesday evening. “Poquoson Assistant City Manager and former Poquoson Commissioner of the Revenue lost his courageous battle with COVID-19.”
Mr. Wilson was the assistant city manager for the past three years, having served as the city’s commissioner of revenue for the 18 years prior.
“Graham always greeted you with his infectious smile and was well known for his quick wit. Even from his hospital bed with very little strength he would give hilarious accounts [through text message] of his experiences there in the care of others,” Mugler added in her post.
Poquoson city offices closed at 1:30 p.m. yesterday in observance of Mr. Wilson’s passing.
“Graham was my favorite person in the whole world,” Randy Wheeler, Poquoson city manager, said of his former colleague. “He was a gifted public servant and he loved his community. He got out of bed every morning and loved to be part of a group of people who loved serving their community.”
“He was just one of those rare people,” Wheeler added.
