MERCHANTS SQUARE — Colonial Williamsburg’s Merchants Square is hosting a food drive to benefit the House of Mercy in Williamsburg starting Friday.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Williamsburg House of Mercy has collected over a million pounds of food for those in need, and is continuing to do so with this year’s Merchants Square Food Drive, according to a Merchants Square Facebook post on Monday.

The donation event begins Friday, March 12 and continues through Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The non-profit organization is asking the community to bring food and toiletrie donations the following stores in Merchants Square: Simply Southern, Aromas, Baskin-Robbins, Three Cabanas, DoG Street Pub, The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg, The Carousel, Henry Street Shops, Danforth Pewter, Wythe Candy and Blue Talon Bistro

House of Mercy is asking for non-perishable food items or unexpired goods, including canned meat, pasta, cereal, juice and ramen. However, they also request that people bring often forgotten, but much needed items, such as diapers, wipes and feminine hygiene products.
