UPDATE as of Tuesday at 12:40 p.m.
Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday off Humesline Parkway which left a York County woman dead.
On Tuesday at approximately 8:33 a.m. James City County police officers, the fire department and EMS responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Route 199 Humesline Parkway about a half-east from the Longhill Road exit, according to a JCC PD news release.
Police said a tow truck that had stopped to tow a vehicle stuck in the median had parked partially in the left lane.
“A 2003 Jeep Wrangler traveling in the left lane struck the tow truck from behind,” according to police. “The impact caused the Jeep to go into the right lane where it was struck by a 2018 Honda CRV.”
Authorities said the Jeep’s driver, 29-year-old Hailey R. Diggs of York County was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Diggs was wearing her seatbelt but was ejected from the vehicle due to the impact. The Jeep was totaled.
The 63-year-old James City County resident driving the Honda CRV was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News with minor injuries, police said, adding the Honda had “significant damage.”
Authorities noted the tow truck driver, a 38-year-old man, was inside the truck at the time of the crash and was not injured.
“Route 199 was blocked westbound for several hours while the investigation took place,” the news release noted. “The crash remains under investigation.”
This is a developing story.
