Every dog has its day — and an upcoming event is giving every dog a chance to showcase their smile and skills.

The annual dog-friendly Fido Fest event will be held virtually this year, according to James City County Parks and Recreation.

The free event is presented by the Peninsula Animal Referral Center and is hosted by the county and Heritage Humane Society. The Pet Resort at Greensprings, the James City Veterinary Clinic and Muddy Marley’s Dog Wash are the event sponsors.

Dog owners can enter their furry friends into several contests with prizes up for grabs.

Fido Fest will take place between March 15-20. Registration must be completed by March 10, and can be completed here.

The event will include photo contests, a best trick competition, a coloring raffle and a fashion show. Voting for the contests will be held on JCC Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page.

Prizes will be awarded in the photo contests for best smile, best costume, puppies age 2 years old and younger, and dogs 3 years old and older.

Pet owners can also submit a 30-second video of their dog doing a trick to enter the best trick contest.

Each dog who is entered in the Fido Fashion Show will receive a prize and be featured in a video.

Participants in the Fido Coloring Raffle can pick up a coloring sheet from the recreation centers or parks offices, or download them from the county website. The sheet is then to be colored, photographed and emailed to joy.johnson@jamescitycountyva.gov.

The raffle winner will be announced March 22.
