Young girls of the Williamsburg area can step up to the plate this spring and try their hand at softball.
Registration for girls softball is open now until Feb. 28 with Williamsburg Parks and Recreation.
Each player has a chance to bat and play in the field in every game, with games and practices at Kiwanis Park. Coach and team requests are not guaranteed, according to the City’s website.
The spring season has four divisions for girls to join depending on their age.
T-Ball is for girls 5-6 years old, $45 per player.
Coach Pitch is for kids 7-8 years old, with $50 per player.
There are two Fast-Pitch leagues, one for children 9-10 years old and another for children 11-12 years old, both at $55 per player.
Under softball league COVID-19 guidelines, players must wear masks while in dugouts and shared spaces, with temperature screenings occurring at every practice and game.
Each participant will also need to supply their own batting helmet with a facemask, bat, and glove — sharing equipment will not be allowed. Limited quantities of bats and batting helmets will be available for sale through the parks and recreation department. Contact Recreation Supervisor Taryn Sherrill for more information at tsherrill@williamsburgva.gov.
