The William & Mary Theatre, Speech and Dance Department announced its spring performance schedule for the 2021 season on Jan. 8.

Theatre fans can expect performances from current students, alumni and partnerships with other art organizations — including Christopher Newport University — showcasing diversity in the arts, according to the department’s announcement.

Some performances are original works like “MOSAIC” and “the Untethered: Homecoming” — both dance productions.

“‘The Untethered: Homecoming’ will hopefully provide a space for reflective nostalgia for the theatre and college community at William & Mary through song, monologues, dance and poetry that could pave the way for both healing and a sense of community,” Francis Tanglao Aguas, the show’s director said in a prepared statement. “My hope is that the current community will appreciate the experiences of these alumni that got us to where we are today because it is the present that will move the journey forward towards more diversity and inclusion on the W&M stage.”

All the performances for the 2021 season will be virtual — either live streamed or pre-recorded in video format. You can purchase tickets here.

Breanna Maldonado, a Orchesis Modern Dance Company student, is helping direct and choreograph “Reaching Out & Leaning In,” a dance performance which celebrates individuality and global connections.

“A unique creative element I bring as a director is the idea of using camera angles and visuals that hopefully make the audience feel as though we are all closer and more connected than we physically are,” she added.
