James City County Parks and Recreation is celebrating their 40th anniversary with weekly contests for the rest of the year.

“You’re the firm foundation of our success—without your support and participation, we couldn’t do what we do,” according to the department’s Facebook post.

As part of the “On Location in James City County” contest, residents guess the location of the JCC Parks and Recreation’s commemorative brick by commenting on the department’s Facebook post.

Photos of the brick are posted on Facebook on Wednesdays and the locations can be any of the county’s parks, trails and facilities.

The department’s first contest was on Jan. 6 and the correct answer was a merry-go-round at My Place Playground near to the James City County Recreation Center.

Residents who guess the locations, whether they are right or wrong, are entered in a quarterly raffle for a “special prize.”

The raffle is every three months and residents can guess once daily on Wednesdays through Tuesdays.
