York County Arts Commission seeking applications for grants

The York County Arts Commission is looking for grant applications to help raise awareness for the arts.

Individuals and organizations are able to apply for these arts grants which benefit the citizens of York County, according to a press release from the county.

The grants are up to $500 for local and regional artists or groups to showcase their artwork around the county, develop new programs and create new artworks.

According to the news release, the following criteria will determine eligibility for each person or group that applies:

  • Not-for-profit and exempt from federal income tax under provisions of the internal revenue code.
  • Produce, present, or support dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theater, museums, visual and related arts.
  • Perform or offer activities/services in York County, or in Williamsburg or James City County that also serve the citizens of York County.
  • Performances, projects, or services not held in Williamsburg, James City County, or York County, which are deemed by the Commission to directly benefit the citizens.
  • Performances, projects, or services are accessible to persons with disabilities and the public at large.
  • Grant money is not to be used for capital investment or operating expenses.”

Submissions are due by Monday, March 1 at 4 p.m. Applications can be submitted at the York County website.

Funding recommendations will be made this spring after grant applications are reviewed by the York County Arts Commission. The funds will be appropriated this summer, pending approval by the county’s Board of Supervisors.
