The Historic Triangle may see a snowflake or two tomorrow morning.
According to the weekend forecast from the National Weather Service Wakefield office, Friday morning has a slight chance of snow before 9 a.m., followed by a chance of rain and snow between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
“What we’re dealing with is a storm system that’s going to be undercutting us and moving down through North Carolina, and there’s going to be enough moisture on the north side of the system to bring some precipitation into the area beginning mid to late morning tomorrow,” said Jonathan McGee, meteorologist at the NWS Wakefield office.
Friday will have a high temperature of 39 degrees and a 50 percent chance of precipitation.
But folks may still have to perform their snow day rituals, like sleeping with a frozen spoon under their pillow, if they want more than a dusting tomorrow.
“I can’t promise any accumulations out of this,” McGee said. He described Friday evening to have “spits of rain and snowflakes on and off,” but it won’t be enough to coat the roads.
However, the NWS’ weekend forecast states there is a chance of snow after midnight, with “new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.”
Saturday has a slight chance of snow before 10 a.m., but the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 43 degrees.
The chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
