Busch Gardens Williamsburg made an announcement today that will result in more opportunities for guests to explore the park year round.

The theme park will now be open in January, February, and early March for the first time ever.

There will be three new limited capacity outdoor special events each month, starting with Winter Weekends, then Mardi Gras, followed by a St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

“Adding January, February and early March to our schedule is an exciting operational change for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled to kick off a new year with new special events for our guests,” Kevin Lembke, president of Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA, said in a news release.

The park also anticipates opening Pantheon, “the world’s fastest multi-launch coaster,” sometime in 2021.

Winter Weekends will give guests an experience to see dazzling lights, thrilling rides, and interact with wildlife not normally featured in the park. 13 rides, including three roller coasters and the Sesame Street Forest of Fun, will be open to guests to enjoy.

This special capacity event will run Jan. 15- 24 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with day and evening sessions available.

Right after Winter Weekends, Mardi Gras kicks off Jan. 29 to Feb. 28, also available Friday through Sunday. Eight villages will be decorated and offer Cajun food, cocktails, and live entertainment featuring a New Orleans Jazz Band and stilt walkers.

“Guests can start the party with classic NOLA fare, like Cajun sausage and grits and Gumbo, then unwind with a Hurricane cocktail or specialty beer from one of the park’s winter kegs,” said a statement from the news release.

Meanwhile, kids can explore the park through a masquerade scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, and more fun.

Admission starts at $34.99 for limited capacity events. Bundles are available for Winter Weekend admission and a meal for $54.99 and Mardi Gras admission and tasting cards starting at $59.99.

As for safety during the pandemic, the park is working with state and local health officials, outside consultants and attraction industry leaders on health, safety and cleanliness standards, according to the news release.

“While we continue to operate safely with limited capacity, our guests now have the opportunity to experience even more events with a great line up happening almost every weekend of the year,” Lembke said in a statement from the news release.
