The cold weather is finally here, and with it comes the fun of winter outdoor activities.

The Liberty Ice Pavilion is returning to Duke of Gloucester Street in Merchants Square this Friday.

“We always look forward to the warmth and festivity of the holiday season, especially this year,” said Jeff Duncan, Colonial Williamsburg vice president of real estate, in a news release from the foundation. “We invite our neighbors and guests to enjoy the unique shopping and dining of Merchants Square, and also lace up for the magic of a skate, offered in partnership with our friends at Dominion.”

This year also marks the sixth season the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has sponsored the venue with a $100,000 grant.

“Liberty Ice Pavilion has become a welcomed fixture of the holiday season in Williamsburg for residents and visitors alike,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, in the news release.

“We’re honored to continue sponsoring this festive, family-friendly venue,” he added.

The Liberty Ice Pavilion is also a part of the Glide into Winter package offered by the Colonial Williamsburg Resorts.

There will also be complimentary outdoor seating with plans of placing portable heaters, provided by the city of Williamsburg and Merchants Square.

The snack bar includes selections of hot mulled cider, coffee, American Heritage hot chocolate, hot dogs, tavern chili, cookies, and Raleigh Tavern ginger cakes.

The ice pavilion will be open Friday, Nov. 20 through Feb.15 with hours from noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, including Christmas and Presidents Day.

Friday and Valentine’s Day hours are noon to 10 p.m., and Saturdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Single-day passes are $14, with ages 3-12 at $12. A Season Skate Pass is $105 and $90 for ages 3-12. Skate rental and skate sharpening are $5.
