This consignment boutique and DIY studio expanded and reopened in Yorktown

For some, these “safer-at-home” times provide ample opportunity to venture into new hobbies or projects once only imagined.

Many have been transformed to do-it-yourselfers.

Now that we’re on that subject, there’s this locally-owned business in Yorktown — it recently expanded and reopened — that may just suit the likings of those looking for projects.

Lilac Lane offers a variety of classes, craft kits to go, and a craft membership/subscription service.

The home furnishings consignment boutique gift shop started in 2014 in Hampton as just a home consignment shop, but in 2017 they added a DIY aspect, as owner Kim Kellogg has a passion for crafting.

“It was born from a desire to create,” Kellogg said of the reopening of the Yorktown location.

But just like everything else, the opening was delayed because of COVID-19 restrictions — it happened five days after Kellogg signed a lease for the DIY studio.

Curbside pick-up of DIY kits for adults and kids were available when they were not able to open. Kits included wood signs, pottery, door hangers and more to keep people entertained with crafts at home.

“As this went on we had to make some difficult decisions, so we made the decision to close the building in Hampton and move everything to York,” Kellogg said.

Located in the York Village Shopping Center, Lilac Lane is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The store is unlike big box hobby stores because it was created by and run by a local person who has a passion for what she does — and her goal is to share it with the community.
