The Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash Tuesday that killed a woman in James City County.

The 20-year-old woman was identified as Taalibah Malikah Gray of Portsmouth.

State police responded to the crash on Interstate 64 at the 228 mile-marker at approximately 9:39 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicated Gray was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima east when she lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Gray was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of impact and was killed instantly, police said.

One lane of travel was closed for the investigation of the crash.
