Williamsburg man killed following motorcycle crash

A Williamsburg man was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday morning in York County, the Virginia State Police reported.

Police identified the man as Stephen Malone Peoples.

He was 28 years old.

State troopers were called to the scene on Old Williamsburg Road, at Brown Lane at 7:09 a.m.

A preliminary investigation showed Peoples, who was wearing a helmet, was riding 2007 Kawasaki 600 on Old Williamsburg Road when he ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

He died at the scene, police said.

“Speed was a contributing factor and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor,” Sgt. Michelle Anaya, state police spokeswoman, said in a news release.
