The Peninsula Health District, in collaboration with the Williamsburg Health Foundation, Williamsburg House of Mercy, the Urban League of Hampton Roads, and the NAACP is having several free COVID-19 testing sites throughout October.
The locations of the testing sites are as follows, weather permitting:
New Zion Baptist Church
3991 Longhill Road
Williamsburg
Little Zion Baptist Church
8625 Pocahontas Trail
Williamsburg
Williamsburg House of Mercy
10 Harrison Avenue
Williamsburg
Irene Ferrainolo, spokeswoman for the Peninsula Health District, said the events are targeted for high-risk people, such as the elderly and healthcare works. She said the testing is really not for the general public, but they will not turn people away.
“Our focus is on people who are symptomatic or who are essential workers who are at high risk for exposure, live or work in a group setting, health care workers, first responders, or live with or have come into close contact with someone with COVID,” she said.
She added the locations were carefully chosen based on census blocks identified as having a rate of COVID-19 cases, a high number of people who are in high-risk groups, and those with no health insurance.
