Drivers in Hampton Roads can expect closures on water crossings, interstates and notable detours for the week of Sept. 13-19.
This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single-lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.
Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.

Bridges & Tunnels
Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:
- Single-lane closure eastbound on Sept. 13 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Alternating, single-lane closures westbound on Sept. 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664:
- Single-lane closures southbound on Sept. 14-17 starting as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures northbound on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Single-lane closures northbound on Sept. 16-17 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
James River Bridge, Route 17:
- Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions on Sept. 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
High Rise Bridge, I-64:
- Full closure of I-64 at the High Rise Bridge between I-464 (Exit 291A) and George Washington Highway (Exit 296) on Sept. 11-12 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Click here for more information.
Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown tunnels):

I-64 Widening Segment III Project, York County:
- Single-lane closures on I-64 east and west from Route 199 Lightfoot exit (Exit 234) to Route 199/Humelsine Parkway (Exit 242) Sept. 13-17, starting as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Brief, intermittent stoppages on Colonial Parkway near the I-64 overpass Sept. 14-16, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Lane closures under flagger control on Fenton Mill Road Sept. 14-16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure and diversion on the existing Route 199 west on-ramp to I-64 west in Lightfoot continues. Westbound traffic on Route 199 follow detour signage in place directing motorists to a new temporary median crossover to access the Route 199 east on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.
- A consecutive, long-term lane closure under traffic signal control on Colonial Parkway at the I-64 overpass continues.
- A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure on Route 143 Merrimac Trail north to I-64 west continues. Traffic will follow detour signage in place directing motorists to the Route 143 south on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.
I-64 Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion:
- Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions between South Military Highway (Exit 297) and Greenbrier Parkway (Exit 289):
- Sept. 13, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Sept. 14-17 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Sept. 18, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Sept. 19, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- Sept. 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-64, Chesapeake:
- Full closure of on-ramp from Route 17 (George Washington Highway) southbound to I-64 westbound on Sept. 11-13 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-64, Express Lanes:
- Full closure of I-64 Express Lanes in both directions Sept. 14 from 9-11:30 a.m.
I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project, Norfolk/Virginia Beach:
- Alternating, multi-lane closures in both directions on I-264 between Newtown Road (Exit 15) and Witchduck Road (Exit 16) on Sept. 13-18 starting as early as 7 p.m., with more than two lanes closed no earlier than 9 p.m.

I-564, Norfolk:
- On I-564 westbound between Norfolk Naval Station Gate 3 and Terminal Boulevard:
- Continuous double-lane closure from Sept. 11 at 9 a.m to Sept. 14 at 4 a.m.
- Multi-lane closures on Sept. 12-13 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
- Brief, intermittent stoppages lasting up to 20 minutes on Sept. 12-13 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
- Single-lane closures eastbound on Sept. 12-13 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Jamestown-Scotland Ferry:
The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry is adding one nighttime trip from Jamestown to Surry at 8 p.m. This schedule update means a two-boat service will now be in place for passengers daily from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. with vessels leaving both sides on the hour and half-hour. At all other times, one vessel leaves Scotland on the hour and Jamestown on the half-hour.
The Virginia Department of Transportation continues to ask drivers and passengers to remain in their vehicles for the duration of the trip. Ferry bathrooms and the salon area remain closed to the public until further notice.
