Parkway tunnel closed for lighting assessment

A portion of the Colonial Parkway will be temporarily closed Friday.

The Williamsburg Tunnel on the Colonial Parkway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a lighting assessment, according to a news release from the National Park Service.

Drivers will follow detour signs in both directions during the closure.

Detour signs will direct Jamestown-bound traffic at the Parkway traffic circle, along Visitor Center Drive, to South Henry Street, to the Newport Avenue interchange with the parkway.

Traffic heading toward Yorktown will follow the detour in the opposite direction. All turns will have signs that read “Colonial Parkway Yorktown Detour.”

The England Street ramp will remain open.

The National Park Service still encourages people who visit the Colonial Parkway during the pandemic to adhere to national and state guidance. Updates to operations will be posted on the National Park Service website.
