Trailblazers in James City County may run into some obstacles if they go to Freedom Park this weekend.

Multiuse Trail 3 is scheduled for asphalt repairs on Monday. Patching will be done near the bridge and cemetery, weather permitting. The trail will remain open, but park officials advise patrons to follow work crews’ instructions.

Alister Perkinson, the county’s parks administrator, said the asphalt patching is a routine repair for trail maintenance and should be completed on Monday.

The mountain bike trails remain closed due to down trees and debris on the trails from Tropical Storm Isaias. Perkinson said they hope to have the trails reopened by the end of the weekend. Volunteers from the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association help to maintain trails.

Perkinson added the parks in the county had little damage done to them from this week’s tropical storm.

Other facilities at the park remain open under safety guidelines.

The Freedom Park Interpretive Center meeting room is available for private rentals at 50 percent capacity, but park water fountains remain closed. Social gatherings must not be more than 50 people. Playgrounds are open, but patrons must maintain six feet of social distance at all times.
