Marclay Road crash kills James City County teen

An 18-year-old from James City County was killed following a single-vehicle crash on July 4.

Authorities said it happened in the 200 block of Marclay Road. The man, Christopher Lee King, died at the scene.

James City County Police officers and crews from the county’s Fire and Rescue responded to the are at around 2:22 a.m. on a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Police said a 19-year-old man was driving a 2012 Ford Mustang convertible with the top down at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control in a curve, causing the vehicle to go airborne and spin. There were three passengers in the vehicle.

Police said King, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver and the other passengers were not injured, police said.

The crash remain under investigation and charges are pending, authorities said.

Police did not say why they are just now releasing information about the crash.
