Despite the coronavirus pandemic, people across the Peninsula voted for contested school board and city council seats including a mayoral election in Hampton and a school board seat to replace Shelly Simonds’ spot in Newport News.

On April 24, Gov. Ralph Northam postponed the May 5 elections by two weeks due to coronavirus concerns and urged residents to request absentee ballots in lieu of voting in person.

Here are the official results of the Hampton and Newport News elections which include the absentee ballots. The candidates are listed from the highest to the lowest polling numbers and the (I) next to a candidate’s name stands for incumbent.
