This nonprofit created a fund to support people with disabilities during the coronavirus

Several nonprofits on the Peninsula are struggling to find ways to continue serving the community during the coronavirus.

VersAbility Resources, a nonprofit which provides services to those with disabilities, is one of them.

It recently created a COVID-19 Relief Fund to support their residential program and their contracts with the military to provide food and other services.

  • $25: Arts and crafts supplies, movies, games and skill-building resources.
  • $50: Cleaning supplies.
  • $100: Food, masks, gloves, gowns and other essential items.

“Every day, people with disabilities are going to work to provide mission-essential services for the military,” said Kasia Grzelkowski, CEO of VersAbility, in a prepared statement. “Our team answers global calls for the Air Force 24/7, cleans essential government facilities, serves food, and makes eyeglasses for military personnel.”

“Our team is also responsible for loading food on Navy ships from Norfolk to Guam and recently supplied the hospital ships Comfort and Mercy,” she added.

VersAbility Resources’ residential program is fully operational with staff 24/7 and the nonprofit’s early childhood program continues to screen, offer therapy services and other support via phone or video chat, according to VersAbility’s news release.
