Authorities have arrested two men in connection with the body found in a wooded area in York County.
Robert Carroll, 42, and Kevin Dunn, 43, are charged with unlawful disposal of a body.
Information on where the men are from was not immediately released — authorities said they are not from York County.
According to Norfolk City Jail online booking sheet, Carroll was booked on additional charges of strangulation resulting in wounding or bodily injury and concealing a dead body.
Both men are being held without bond.
No other information about the arrests was immediately released. Authorities would only credit the “combined efforts” of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, the Norfolk Police Department, “and many tips from our community…”
“As a result of the investigation, we were able to determine that the case originated in Norfolk and the victim was not a resident of York County,” according to a YPSO Facebook post.
Norfolk authorities said their investigation indicated the death happened in Norfolk.
The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the official manner and cause of death.
The victim’s identity will be released once a next of kin is notified, authorities said.
“Police are not looking for any suspects,” according to a news release from Norfolk Police.
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s deputies received a call Monday about a “suspicious incident” near the 100 block of Long Green Boulevard, said sheriff’s Capt. Tommy West. The area is near the YMCA and Tabb Library.
Authorities said a passerby had been walking a dog in the area when the animal pulled the passerby over toward a spot near the woods. The body was hidden under leaves and the passerby didn’t see it. However, the passerby felt there was something wrong and called YPSO around 7:25 a.m.
Deputies found the body in the wood line near the area.
