‘Bear hunts’ all over the Historic Triangle amid the coronavirus? It’s not what you think

As people isolate themselves in their homes, communities are still finding ways to spread a little hope and joy.

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), people across the country have started taking to window and home decorations to reach out to their communities.

In addition to decorating homes with Christmas lights or paper hearts, families are also going on “bear hunts” to discover stuffed bears located in windows around their neighborhood.

Elisabeth Wilkins, a resident in York County, made a day of bear hunting with her two children. Wilkins started by reading the children’s book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury and then going on one of their daily walks with the purpose of spotting the bears in the windows.

Now that they’ve been collecting photos of the bears in the windows, she said her son is planning to use them to make a fun bear hunt video.

In Piney Point in York County, resident Angela Molin said residents have been doing a different decoration each week. First, residents decorated their windows with shamrocks, followed by heart decorations the next week and then placing bears in windows the following week.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, residents across the Historic Triangle are taking the time to find these messages of hope and spirit.
