Newport News Shipbuilding confirms 6th positive case of the coronavirus

Another employee has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID 19) at Newport News Shipbuilding.

This is the company’s sixth confirmed case so far, the first was reported a little more than a week ago on March 23.

The individual worked at a Off-Yard Office, West Park Lane, and was last on company property on March 27, according to the shipyard’s website.

It’s unclear if the individual had self-reported and if the person is currently quarantined.

As of Wednesday, James City County has 95 cases, Newport News has a 29, York County has 16, Hampton has 14, Williamsburg has 9 and Poquoson has 3, according to the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Virginia has 1,484 positive cases and 34 deaths. At least eight people from the Peninsula Health District have died from the coronavirus.

The Peninsula Health District covers Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County. The Hampton Health District covers Hampton.
