A staff member at Christopher Newport University has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID 19).

This is university’s first case–––which was confirmed Thursday.

Cynthia Perry, the university’s chief of staff, wrote Thursday in Facebook post that the staff member works in Christopher Newport Hall and has not been on campus since March 20.

She noted there was no indication the staff member was in contact with anyone other than people at Christopher Newport Hall.

Christopher Newport Hall has administrative offices, including the offices of Admission, Registrar, Financial Aid, Housing and the Center of Academic Success, according to the university’s campus map.

“The Virginia Department of Health will contact anyone who may have been in close contact with this individual,” Perry wrote. “If you receive a call from VDH, please follow their instructions and self-quarantine.”

“If you do not receive a call, you do not need to take specific action other than to continue good preventative hygiene measures and physical social distancing,” she added.
