Simon Property Group on Wednesday announced after “extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials and in recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19, Simon will close all of its retail properties, including Malls, Premium Outlets and Mills in the U.S.”
Norfolk Premium Outlets and Williamsburg Premium Outlets are among the properties. Here’s a list of merchants the the Williamsburg location.
Some of the biggest outlets are Nike Factory Store, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren Store, among others.
The closure took effect at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 through March 29 company officials said.
“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” said David Simon, chairman, CEO and president of Simon, in a prepared statement.
It remains unclear whether the March 29 reopen date is tentative.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Norman Oliver during a news briefing in Richmond Wednesday said James City County, as of noon Wednesday, has 17 positive cases — total for the state Wednesday was 77.
James County County is considered a case of coronavirus (COVID-19) “outbreak,” one of three in the state. The other two outbreaks are in Richmond. An outbreak is two or more cases that can be traced to common exposure.
Norman said the Peninsula Health District is investigating more than 315 contacts for the 17 positive cases in James City County.
