A.C. Moore, the nationwide chain known for arts and crafts, is closing its store locations this year, including the one in York County.

“Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today’s environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a National level,” said Anthony Piperno, CEO of A.C. Moore, in a recent news release. “During this process, we will continue to provide great customer experience, while still delivering quality and value on your favorite products.”

The chain noted it would stop online orders and post specific closing information of the stores on its website. In addition, up to 40 stores will re-open as Michaels, another national arts and crafts chain, this year.

The $58 million deal includes The Michaels Companies Inc. taking over the A.C. Moore stores’ leases, leasing an East Coast distribution facility and buying intellectual property, according to the news release.

“While it was a difficult decision for us, this transaction will result in a group of stores reopening under the Michaels banner subject to negotiations with landlords— allowing teams to continue serving the brand’s loyal customers and employ our valued team members in those locations,” Piperno said.

WYDaily reached out to the Village Square location in York County to inquire when the store would close.

“Um, I have no comment right now, than you,” the store manager said before hanging up.

WYDaily also contacted Matthew Pascucci, chief restructuring officer for the chain, multiple times but he was not immediately available for comment.

On the chain’s main website, items are marked as 50 to 80 percent off original prices in-store only next to the words “store closing, our final weeks.”

The Yorktown location is still listed as a store location with its hours of operation and its Facebook page posts various products on sale such as art canvases, candle fragrances and flower stems.

It’s unclear when the store location will close or whether it will reopen as Michaels.

The Tabb Lakes Residents 411 Facebook page posted the store would close on March 22 but WYDaily could not verify the information with the store location or the chain retailer.

The A.C Moore store at Village Square, 5007 Victory Blvd. Ste. F, is currently open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to. 9p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m to 7 p.m.
