Report of Suspicious Activity Leads to Homicide Investigation

A report made to police of suspicious activity at a Red Roof Inn, in Virginia Beach, leads to a homicide investigation, according to Virginia Beach Police.

Police say that on Sunday, Feb. 9, at approximately 10:30 am, a citizen made a report to police of suspicious activity that was occurring at the Red Roof Inn located at 196 Ballard Court.

Detectives responded, and discovered a crime scene that lead them to start a homicide investigation, according to a press release.

The adult male victim has been identified, but police are withholding his identity until next of kin notification has been made.

42-year-old Melissa Nanette Diaz of Virginia Beach was arrested, in the 500 block of Brian Ave. for the crime. She is being held at the City of Virginia Beach Corrections Facility.

This investigation is still in the very early stages, as detectives are working to look into the events that unfolded.
