Riverside Health System’s Cancer Care Center is inviting women, 21 and older, for “peace of mind” when they receive free medical screenings at Brentwood Medical Center Jan. 30.

The health care system is offering free pap smears and breast exams to women who register, or walk-in until 6 p.m. on Thursday where attendees will be assessed for early signs of cervical and breast cancers.

“Having a regular pap smear not only helps identify cervical cancer early when it is most treatable, but it can also detect changes in cells that suggest cancer may develop in the future,” according to a news release from Riverside.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, women between the ages of 21 and 29 should have a pap smear every three years and women 30 to 65 years old should have one every five years.

Brentwood Medical Center is in Newport News at 10510 Jefferson Ave. Those interested can register for their screening in advance or learn more by calling 800-520-7006.
