The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is seeking applicants for its next Citizen Police Academy, beginning February 20 and running through May 7, according to a press release.
City officials say the academy provides an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about police operations through a series of lectures, field trips and simulated activities.
Sessions are typically held Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be a Newport News resident, business owner, employed in the city or be connected to Newport News in some way.
Participants are required to undergo a background check.
Applications are due by January 30. For additional information and to apply, visit the NNPD’s Citizen Police Academy webpage.
