The holiday season continues: Here’s what’s closed New Year’s Eve, Day

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner and several localities will be closed the next day.

WYDaily compiled a list of local offices and administration buildings that are closed in observance of the New Year. The following offices and other attractions are closed on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, unless otherwise noted.

Williamsburg

  • Municipal Building
  • Waller Mill Park
  • Quarterpath Recreation Center
  • Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse, closed Tuesday and Wednesday

James City County

  • County offices
  • James City County Recreation Center, closed at 6 p.m. Tuesday, closed Wednesday
  • Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, closed 6 p.m. Tuesday, closed Wednesday
  • Freedom Park store and office
  • Chickahominy Riverfront Park store and office
  • James City County Marina Store and office
  • Little Creek Reservoir Park store and office
  • Convenience centers
  • Garbage Transfer Station
  • Williamsburg Regional Library, closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday, closed Wednesday

All county parks will remain open.

York County

  • York County offices, closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • York County Courthouse, closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • York-Poquoson Social Services, closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Virginia Cooperative Extension, closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Waste Management Center Administrative offices, closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • VPPSA Compost Facility, closed Wednesday

There will be no waste management collection on Wednesday. Wednesday curbside garbage and recycling collections will be moved to back one day through Saturday.

Hampton

  • City offices
  • City schools and school district offices are closed until Monday, Jan. 6
  • Landfill
  • Garbage collection is suspended Wednesday
  • Yard waste site
  • City libraries
  • City Courts
  • Health Department and clinics
  • Social Services
  • Bluebird Gap Farm
  • Hampton History Museum
  • Hampton City Parks offices
  • City community centers will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday and stay closed until Thursday, Jan. 2
  • Air Power Park
  • Charles H. Taylor Arts Center
  • Carousel Park closes Dec. 31 and will stay closed until March 31.

Newport News

  • City Offices & libraries
  • City schools- closed until Jan. 6
  • Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections – Collections are delayed one day starting Jan. 1. Example: Wednesday’s collections take place on Thursday and Thursday’s collections on Friday.
  • Recovery Operations Center (i.e., landfill)
  • Waterworks –closed Jan. 1. Emergency water outage? Call 757-234-4800.
  • Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter
  • Virginia Living Museum — open Dec. 31 with a special New Year’s Eve celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed Jan. 1.
